With the advent of internet, collaboration has become much easier. Wikipedia is the best example of collaboration with 120 million articles created collaboratively in 282 languages and 365 million readers’ world wide. The common collaboration tools are blogs and wikis.
Wiki is a website with linked pages that can be collaboratively edited.
The first Wiki was developed by Ward Cunningham onMarch 25, 1995and the purpose was to collaborate software development. The word wiki came from the Hawaiian language which means quick.
Today, wikis are extensively used in corporate sector and higher education. More work specific wikis are also developed.

Wiki doesn’t need any special investmet or tools/ It just needs a computer, internet connection, browser and definitely a team.
The wiki usage statistics are fascinating. Since 2005 wikis have been made more user friendly. There are 5 top service providers in this field. PB works, Wet Paint, Wikia, and google sites, wiki spaces being on the top.
As of October 10, 2011one of the providers wiki spaceshas given away 433,927 free wikis for K-12 education! These wikis are safe for K12 users.
Wiki spaces was started in 2005. In 2008 it had 390,000 wiki. In 2009 it had 900 000 wikis up and running. Not an S shaped curve, but still a J shaped curve.In 2008 wikispaces had 920 000 registered uses and in 2009 had 22 000 000 registered uses. Still a J shaped curve, Not an S shaped curve yet.
